Phacoemulsification is the most common cataract surgery procedure. Cataract surgery is usually performed to recover eyesight in patients whose vision has become cloudy due to cataracts, which are cloudy lenses in the eyes. The surgery involves removing the natural, cataractous lens and replacing it with an artificial, clear intraocular lens (IOL).
At Jayadeva Nethralaya, we have state-of-the-art facilities and provide sophisticated and effective treatments in a safe and sterile atmosphere, ensuring that the surgical experience is as easy and comfortable as possible for our patients. The cataract department in the hospital is working round the clock and is fully equipped to treat all kinds of cataracts. An expert doctor, experienced surgeon, well-trained support staff, and cutting-edge diagnostics ensure the best possible care for our patients. Phacoemulsification is an innovative technique for making cataract treatment completely painless, with no discomfort or fear of surgery.
Phacoemulsification surgery uses very minimal sedation. In this type of surgery, the surgeon makes two small incisions of about 2 mm in the cornea around the edge of the cornea, creating an opening through the membrane surrounding the lens. A tiny ultrasonic probe is introduced through this incision to use sound waves to break down the lens into small pieces. A suction connection is attached to the probe tip, which is used to suck the broken pieces. A hollow tube is then inserted through the corneal opening to place a foldable intraocular lens in the lens capsule. The corneal incision does not require stitches and heals on its own. The incision heals completely within a few days. Antibiotics, steroids, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are commonly recommended by doctors as post-operative eye drops. Most patients experience an immediate improvement in their vision, and their eyesight tends to improve significantly over a period of 4-5 weeks.
